Here are the 10 Financial Traps Most Americans Miss quiz answers with concise explanations.
Show all 10 answers
By federal law, credit card statements include a "minimum payment warning." What does it show?
Answer: How long payoff takes, and the total cost, if you pay only the minimum — The warning box estimates how long it would take to clear your balance making only minimum payments, and how much you would pay in total, including interest. It also shows the monthly payment needed to pay the balance off in three years.
Your employer matches 100% of your 401(k) contributions up to 4% of pay. You earn $60,000 and contribute just 2%. How much matching money do you miss each year?
Answer: $1,200 — At 4%, you would contribute $2,400 and receive a $2,400 match. At 2%, you contribute $1,200 and receive only $1,200, so you leave $1,200 a year on the table, before any investment growth.
What is the term for the schedule that decides when your employer's 401(k) contributions fully belong to you?
Answer: Vesting — Your own 401(k) contributions are always 100% yours, but employer contributions can be earned over time. Under federal rules, matching contributions must fully belong to you within three years under "cliff" schedules or six years under "graded" schedules.
Using the Rule of 72, roughly how long would it take an unpaid credit card balance to double at a 24% interest rate?
Answer: About 3 years — Dividing 72 by the annual rate gives a quick estimate of doubling time: 72 ÷ 24 = 3. With no payments and interest compounding, a $5,000 balance could grow to about $10,000 in roughly three years.
Which website is the only one authorized by federal law to provide free credit reports from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion?
Answer: AnnualCreditReport.com — Lookalike sites may sell subscriptions or push paid products. Through the official site, you can now get free reports from all three bureaus every week, a pandemic-era benefit the bureaus made permanent in 2023.
Taking money out of a traditional 401(k) or IRA before age 59½ usually triggers an additional federal tax of what percent, on top of regular income tax?
Answer: 10% — The IRS adds a 10% additional tax to most early distributions, and the money is also taxed as ordinary income. For someone in the 22% bracket, a $10,000 early withdrawal could cost about $3,200 in federal taxes.
Owing more on your car loan than the car is currently worth is known as what?
Answer: Negative equity — New cars lose value quickly, so buyers with long loans and little money down can soon owe more than the car is worth. If the car is totaled or traded in, the borrower may still owe the difference.
What is the FDIC's standard deposit insurance limit per depositor, per insured bank, for each account ownership category?
Answer: $250,000 — Deposits above the limit at one bank in the same ownership category may not be fully protected if the bank fails. Spreading money across banks or ownership categories, such as joint or trust accounts, can increase coverage.
Which factor carries the most weight in a FICO credit score, at about 35%?
Answer: Payment history — FICO weights payment history at about 35%, amounts owed at 30%, length of credit history at 15%, and new credit and credit mix at about 10% each.
During open enrollment, which account carries a "use-it-or-lose-it" risk, where unused money at the end of the plan year can be forfeited?
Answer: Health care FSA — Health care flexible spending accounts let you pay medical costs with pre-tax money, up to $3,400 in 2026, but most unspent balances are forfeited. HSA balances, by contrast, roll over every year and stay yours if you change jobs.

§ 1 · The basicsHow the Bing Homepage Quiz Works
Every morning, Bing replaces the photo on its homepage with a new image: a glacier in Patagonia, a lantern festival in Taiwan, a heron standing in an English marsh. Alongside that photo, Microsoft publishes the Bing Homepage Quiz, a short multiple-choice game built around the story behind the picture. It usually has three questions, shows the right answer after each pick, and adds a sentence or two of background, so even a wrong guess teaches you something.
Because the subject follows the photo, the quiz rarely repeats itself. One day you're asked about the migration of monarch butterflies; the next, about a medieval cathedral or a desert in Central Asia. That variety is exactly why a steady habit of general-knowledge practice pays off, and it's why our Bing Homepage Quiz board above changes its theme daily. You'll find today's topic at the top of the board, with 10 plates that explore it from different angles, plus a set of clues below the board if you get stuck.
The official quiz is often part of the Microsoft Rewards Daily Set, which means answering it can earn points. Our version is a practice ground, built to sharpen your recall with more questions, a tighter clock, and fuller explanations.
Where to find the official quiz
Open bing.com on a desktop browser and look at the information panel that describes the day's photo. On days when a quiz runs, you'll see a link to start it there. Signed-in Rewards members will often find the same Bing Homepage Quiz as one of the three tiles in their Daily Set, and the Bing mobile app sometimes features it too. Availability varies by country and language, so if you don't see it, check the Rewards dashboard instead.
§ 2 · Points and levelsMicrosoft Rewards in 2026: What Has Changed
Microsoft Rewards is Microsoft's free loyalty program. You sign in with a Microsoft account, earn points for everyday activity, and redeem them for gift cards, Xbox and PC Game Pass, sweepstakes entries, or donations to nonprofits. The program has been reshaped several times, and 2026 brought some of the biggest changes yet, so it's worth knowing how it works now.
The new levels: Member, Silver and Gold
In January 2026, several markets, including the Philippines, Canada and Australia, moved to three participation levels called Member, Silver and Gold. Your level sets how many points you can earn from Bing searches each day. In the markets that announced the change, the daily search limits were 15 points for Member, 30 for Silver and 60 for Gold. Reaching a higher level depends on staying active, including earning points every month and keeping your daily activity going.
Monthly bonuses
Two monthly extras arrived with the new levels. Coverage of the overhaul describes a monthly level bonus worth up to a few hundred points, and a Bing Star Bonus that rewards genuine, everyday use of Bing search. Reported Star Bonus amounts rise with your level, reaching about 2,100 points per month at Gold, although many members say the exact payout is hard to predict.
The Daily Set
The Daily Set is the trio of quick activities on your Rewards dashboard, often a quiz, a poll and a link to explore. In March 2026, users in many regions reported that each Daily Set task dropped from 10 points to 5. About a month later, reports confirmed the tasks were back to 10 points each. Microsoft didn't publicly explain either change, which is a good reminder that point values can shift without warning.
Atlas notePoint values, level rules and bonuses vary by country and change over time. The Rewards dashboard at rewards.bing.com is the only reliable source for what your own account can earn today.
§ 3 · Keeping the chainBing Streaks Explained
A streak is simply the number of days in a row you complete an activity. In Microsoft Rewards, the most important streak is the Daily Set streak: finish all three Daily Set tasks every day, and the counter on your dashboard climbs. Microsoft has said it rewards long streaks with bonus points, and many members treat the streak as the backbone of their routine, because missing one day resets it to zero.
Streak protection and streak restore
In 2024, Microsoft added two safety nets. Streak protection is a toggle above the Daily Set that you can switch on before a trip or a busy week. Members get up to 14 days of protection per calendar year. Streak restore lets eligible members recover a broken streak by contacting Rewards support, generally once every 60 days, or once a month if the streak was longer than 100 days. Both features may differ by region, so check your dashboard before you rely on them.
Why streaks matter more now
With the new level system, steady daily activity counts for more than ever. Members who keep their routine going are better placed to reach Silver or Gold, where the search limits and monthly bonuses are larger. In other words, a streak isn't only a badge. It's what moves you up the levels.
Your streak on this page
Our board keeps its own streak as well. Finish today's quiz, and the compass beside the headline records a day. Come back tomorrow, and the count grows. It's a small nudge to keep a learning habit, and it lives only in your browser, so there's nothing to sign up for.
§ 4 · Field craftTips for a Perfect Score
- Study the photo first. On the official Bing Homepage Quiz, the day's image is the biggest clue. Hover over it or open its description before you answer.
- Read the hint. Every plate on our board carries a hint that rules out at least one choice.
- Eliminate the extremes. Answers that are far too large, too small or from the wrong continent are usually decoys.
- Watch for "entirely" and "only". Small words change the answer. China, not Russia, is the largest country that lies entirely within Asia.
- Separate similar names. Mountain ranges, straits and capitals are classic traps. K2 sits in the Karakoram, not the Himalayas.
- Go fast on what you know. On our board, correct answers within 6 seconds earn a Swift bonus, so save your thinking time for the hard plates.
- Learn from the field notes. The extra facts shown after each answer, and again in your expedition report, often turn up in later quizzes.
- Make it a routine. Playing at the same time each day protects both your Rewards streak and your score.

The homepage quiz is only one of several quiz formats people know from Bing and Microsoft Rewards. Some are weekly, some follow the news, and others celebrate a holiday or awareness month.
